Chemistry 11: Periodic Trends Unit -Oct 4-Oct 31

PERIODIC TRENDS UNIT
Mon Nov 4:
We finished the bonding notes on p. 2-4 regarding classifying bonds by difference in electronegativity, and ionic bonding.  Marked tests were passed back.
homework:  do exercises on the bottom of p. 2 and p. 4 in new bonding unit package.

Thurs Oct 31:
We wrote the Periodic Trends test.
homework: No homework.  Happy Halloween!

Tues Oct 29:
We started bonding and covered p. 1-2 on the new notes package.  Then we took up review questions for periodic Table  unit (p. 15-16 )
homework: Study for the Periodic table test.  Try the written part of 2017 test posted on my website.

Fri Oct 25:
We passed back the zodiac table assignment, the flame tests labs and took up p. 13, p.6 questions.  We did a practice assessment on periodic trends in IE, AS and EA and marked it in class.
homework:  Do review of the unit (exercises on p. 15-16).  Answers are on my website.
Do review for the test.
TEST DATE IS MOVED TO THURSDAY OCTOBER 31

Wed Oct 23:
We did the flame tests lab and lab quiz.  We discussed 2 methods used to measure ionization energy. (p. 14)
homework:  Do Q #7-9 on p. 6 of notes and start test study.

Mon Oct 21:
We passed back the quizzes.  Had a lesson on Ionization Energy and Electron Affinity (p.10-11), and got lab sheets on the flame tests lab.
homework:  Study theory on flame tests/ electron transition (lab sheet and p.  8),  complete graph questions on p. 13

Thurs Oct 17:

Zodiac Periodic Table Assignment handed in.  You may drop it off at my office on Friday with no penalty.  We covered Electron Transitions and Trends in Atomic Size (p.  8 and 9)
homework:  Study notes on p. 8-9 ; Do graph questions on p. 13 #1-9 only.

Tues Oct 15:
We finished a video on Chemical Families (p. 7),  took up Q #1-4 on p. 6 and then did a Simulation Periodic Table Assignment in class.
homework:  Study notes on p. 1-5 for quiz next class.
Finish Periodic Table Assignment.  I will collect the Zodiac Table assignment next class (Thursday) but you may turn it in without penalty on Friday if you bring it to my office (rm 105).

Friday- PD day,  Monday Thanksgiving

Wed Oct 9:
We took up p. 2 (atomic symbols interpretation) and p. 5 (condensed bohr diagrams of atoms and ions)  homework (put not p. 6 yet).  We discussed the Periodic Table layout
(p. 3), reviewed chemical families and Lewis Dot diagrams (p. 4),  then started a video on Chemical Families (p. 7)
homework:  No homework weekend.
First class back we will be doing a periodic table simulation assignment in class.  Get that assignment in advance, if you will not be at school on Tuesday.  Class time will be given on Tuesday for this Periodic table simulation assignment.

Mon Oct 7:
We got back the Matter and measurement test and took it up.  We continued the review of atomic theory with Condensed Bohr diagrams of atoms and Ion formation on p. 1-2
homework:  atomic symbols exercise on p. 2 (if you didn't already do it,  condensed Bohr diagrams of atoms and ions (p. 5), questions on atomic structure (p. 6  #1-4)

Thurs Oct 4:
We wrote the Matter and measurement test.  New notes packages were distributed and we briefly reviewed atomic structure on p. 1
homework:  atomic symbols exercise on p. 2
