Mon Sept 30:
Atomic Structure Test
homework: No homeworkThurs Sept 26:
We took up p. 15 on transition metal ions, magnetic effects and summarized quantum mechanical model. Then we got a new notes package on the bonding unit and covered the first page and a half (up to and including Br2. Textbooks were distributed.
homework: Review for the test. See notes package for practice questions dealing with configurations (notes p. 14-15) There are some good questions on p. 397.The test: 30-35 multiple choice, one long page of written (both sides). See the practice test on my website. Do this under test conditions in 40 min.
I will be available for extra help on Friday if you have questions.
Tues Sept 24:
We took up selected questions on the pink sheet (up to # 73). We covered p. 14 (electron configurations for ions, anomolous configurations), then had the quiz.
homework: Use my note on the website to fill in p. 15 in your notes package and start test review.(Atomic Structure test is Monday Sept 30)
Fri Sept 20:
We took up selected questions on the pink sheet (up to # 59). We covered p. 12 (reviewing orbitals and n), p. 13 (electronic configurations), p. 14 (valence electrons)
homework: Review for Quiz on Quantum no., orbitals, Energy level diagrams, configurations (covering p. 9-13)Do Practice on Pink sheet questions up to Q #73 (atoms, not ions) answers are on this site.
Wed Sept 18:
We covered the orbitals of the first three shells, their quantum numbers (p. 10), Energy level diagrams for Hydrogen and other elements and the rules for electron distribution (p.11). Marked quizzes and labs were returned.
homework: Pink sheet questions up to Q #60Mon Sept 16:
We wrote the quiz covering atomic models and spectroscopy (up to Bohr model). We did a lesson on Wave-Particle duality of the electron, Superposition, Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, Schrodinger Wave equation and Quantum numbers.
homework: Pink sheet questions sections IV, V and VIThurs Sept 12:
We finished and handed in the
Hydrogen Spectrum lab and had a brief lesson summarizing the contributions of
the Bohr model and covering De Broglie and electron standing waves.
homework: Quiz next class.
Study note p. 1- 6 (just including end of Bohr but not De Broglie) for
quiz next class. Quiz will NOT include any p. 5 calculations. For practice questions: on the Pink sheet, do up to and including #21.
Tues Sept 10:
We finished the lesson on electron
transitions, Bohr model and spectroscopy (notes p. 3-4). We covered
calculations of wavelength for electron transition. (p. 5).
Hydrogen Spectra lab sheet was handed out and lab evaluation was reviewed.
homework:
a) Do a good copy of 4 Pre-lab Balmer calculations
b) Answering pink
questions up to and including Q #19 will really help you prepare for lab quiz.
c) Be ready for pre-lab quiz. Constants will be provided but not formulas.
c) Be ready for pre-lab quiz. Constants will be provided but not formulas.
Fri Sept 6th:
We finished our discussion of
Rutherford and the Gold foil experiment up until the 4 points of Bohr's atomic
theory (notes p. 2-3) and electron transitions. We did a multiple choice assessment
homework: Study
notes so far and do pink sheet questions up to #11Wed Sept 4th:
We reviewed course outline,
expectations and evaluation. Atomic Theory notes packages were distributed and
1st page was covered using Power point (Dalton to Rutherford).
homework: Go on teacher website, schieck-chem.blogspot.com
Navigate to the Lab safety rules and review them. complete Lab Safety contracts and student questionnaires, Study lesson.
