Chemistry 12: Rates Unit: Dec 9-Jan 14

Tues Jan 14:
Rates Test
homework:
No homework

Fri Jan 10:
I passed back the iodine clock labs.  We started a new unit: Equilibrium with an intro in the new notes.
Anyone wishing to write the rates test on MONDAY JAN 13 (at lunch) instead of Tues Jan 14 must speak to me today so I can prepare a test paper for you.
homework:
Review for rates  unit test on Tuesday Jan 14 (this date has been changed)

Wed Jan 8:
We did the Iodine Clock lab quiz as well as an overview of Rates of reactions.
homework:
Review for rates  unit test on Tuesday Jan 14 (this date has been changed)

Mon Jan 6:
We did the Iodine Clock lab, plotted data and submitted graphs electronically. Marked Crystal Violet lab was returned.
homework:
Each group should drop off one excel file with the two graphs on separate sheets of the same file.
Review for Iodine Clock lab quiz package notes p. 5-8.  You do NOT need to learn chemical equations for  the iodine clock reaction.

Thurs Dec 19:
We covered the second example on p. 8 and getting orders from Rate vs. Conc. graphs. (p. 9)
homework:
We have now covered the material in the Rates unit.  As you have the time/energy you can work your way through the remainder of the Rates Practice Questions over the break or the first week back to school.  Have a Merry Christmas!

Tues Dec 17:
We  did the Crystal Violet lab and graphed our data.  We also discussed molecularity and rate law from initial rates data. (p.  7-8)
homework:
Prepare to write Crystal Violet lab quiz on p. 1-4.  You can now start working your way through the rest of the rates practice.

Fri Dec 13:
We took up Wednesday's video lesson and Rates questions #1-28.  Then we covered Reaction Mechanisms,  Radicals and Catalysts. (notes p. 5-6 and the top part of p.7).  We briefly went over the process for the Crystal Violet lab.  Next class will be a combination of lab and lesson.
homework:

Do questions #29-40 in pink practice questions and bring a USB stick to class.

Wed Dec 11:
Watch Rates lesson #2 video (under the Rates notes on this site)- You can fast forward through the first part, since we covered it in Monday's class.
homework:
Do pink sheet practice questions # 11-28

Mon Dec 9:
Start Rates unit:  Intro to Rates, monitoring reaction rates,  expressing rates, using concentration vs. time graphs (notes p. 1-2)
homework:
Do questions #1-10 in pink practice questions.

TENTATIVE RATES EVALUATION DATES:
Tues  Dec 17- Do Crystal Violet Lab (1/2 class)
Thurs Dec 19- Crystal Violet Lab quiz
Mon Jan 6- Do Iodine Clock experiment
