Chemistry 11- Solutions Unit - Mar 9-April 6

April 6 is the projected start date for all your classes to resume learning in some form.  I hope that you have followed the recommendations for the work in Chemistry and have got to the point where you have completed Concentration Problem set I (p. 7 of notes) and Problem set II (p. 8).  If you have completed that, then next week (April 6-9) will be a chance to consolidate, review and assess your understanding.  If you haven't done the concentration problems, then see my previous post detailing the work.

My tentative general plan to proceed in Chemistry as of April 6:
1.  We will move at a slower pace due  to the additional challenge of learning in an on-line format.
2.  Check my website: schieck-chem.blogspot.com at the beginning of the week to see what you need to do in Chemistry that week.
2.  At the beginning of the week I will try to post a little assessment quiz that you can try and mark yourself (for feedback and practice)
3.  Then we will cover 1-2 topics in the week.  I will experiment with a variety of formats for delivery and I will give you some practice questions.
4.  At the end of the week if there are questions (either conceptual or homework question you didn't understand) please e-mail me by Friday and I will try and address them in some format at the beginning of the following week.
5.  We are both figuring this out as we go.  I appreciate your questions and feedback (What learning formats work and which don't?)

I know these conditions are not ideal.  Do your best.  That's all you can do.  Reach out to me if there is anything I can help with.

March 23-April 6
1st week of COVID break:
a)  Do all of Questions on p. 2 in new notes (except #10 on the Exxon Valdez),
b)  Do Solvent compatibility exercise at the bottom of p. 4.  Write ALL the letters of solvents that would be appropriate to dissolve each solute.

c)  We have covered a lot of ground so far.  Use the extended break to learn and understand the material in p. 1-5.

2nd Week of COVID break:
d) Use the website to copy the notes on Calculating Concentration (p. 6)

e)  Do suggested calculations on p. 7 (Practice Set I),  and p. 8 (Practice Set II, only-not the whole page).

Fri Mar 13:
Did a lesson and a mini-lab on Dissolving- bonds and energy,  Rate of Dissolving, and Factors affection Solubility  (p.  3-5).  Stoichiometry Tests were passed back.
homework: see above.

Wed Mar 11:
Stoichiometry Test
homework:  Review solutions terms on  p. 1 of notes

Mon Mar 9:
We started the Solutions unit with p. 1 of the new notes package.  Then we weighed our precipitate and wrote the lab quiz.

homework: Prepare for the Stoichiometry test by writing the practice test on this site.
